The original San Damiano Crucifix is in the Basilica of Santa Chiara in Assisi.
On the large front wall of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Arabia in Awali, Bahrain, a copy of this famous crucifix has been placed equal to the original in size and materials used (wood, fabric, masonry mortar, colors, waxes and gold).
On the canvas soaked in masonry mortar the painting is reproduced and applied on wood. The colors, finishing with pure gold leaf and a fine wax patina, returned a fascinating result.
Once again this was a new work and not precisely a clone.
The technology of high-definition filming of the original and the subsequent fine art giclée printing on Epogea wall bases were augmented by traditional techniques and the real wood structure.
The goal was not to reproduce the original San Damiano crucifix but, as far as possible, to repeat the creative act by acquiring from the original the talent that produced it back in the year 1100.
